About the NC Council
The North Carolina Council of Community MH/DD/SA Programs was incorporated in 1983 as a nonprofit association dedicated to helping its member area programs improve their service quality and management effectiveness. The Council provides its member programs with a strong, cohesive, statewide voice through policy analysis, technical assistance, publications, and educational programs. It is governed by a 20 member Board of Directors consisting of an equal number of citizen area board members and professional area administrators.
Policy
The Council works to fashion consensus positions on statewide policy issues among its member programs then works closely with state agencies and the General Assembly in formulation of state policies affecting community services. The Council actively participates in coalitions of providers and advocates in promoting community-based services for persons with severe and long-term disabilities.
Communication
The Council communicates a wide range of information through its monthly newsletter, bi-monthly Issues Hot Sheet, an annual Community Programs Directory and the Programs of Excellence publication which spotlights innovative and high quality community services.
Training
The Council provides an on-going program of educational and technical assistance services for its member programs and other stakeholders through the Local Management Entity (LME) Academy. The central mission of the LME Academy is to provide training resources that are responsive to the diverse needs of the statewide MH/DD/SA system in North Carolina. The Council also hosts an Annual Conference and Exhibition in December and a Spring Policy Forum, both are major statewide events that bring together public and private mental health providers, and other stakeholders to share and learn about the latest programmatic and management innovations.
